Palm Treo 650 Review

Palm Treo 650

Palm Treo 650 Review Introduction

The Treo 650 smartphone looks and feels just like a phone, but it’s so much more. Carry thousands of business and personal phone numbers with you, and dial any of them by name from your contacts list. Or enter a name or number on the QWERTY keyboard. There’s even an on-screen dial pad, speakerphone, speed dial, conference calling, call history, and caller ID make managing all your calls that much easier.

Palm Treo 650 Design

The keys have been squished so that they are larger, flatter, and closer to one another. These enhancements make thumb-typing a little easier. The Treo 650 retains the signature five-way navigational button, which is critical for easy one-handed operation. But there are several new buttons as well. The most prominent are the dedicated Talk and Power/End buttons, which operate much like those on most cell phones. Four buttons directly below the display provide quick access to the calendar, messaging, applications, and menus. And the volume buttons on the side have been replaced by a single rocker switch, which is easier to use, as well as one customizable quick-launch button. The most impressive feature of the Treo 650 is its improved display. It is 2.5 inches diagonal; 320×320 pixels, but it shows off 65,000 shades. It is 4.4 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches (not including the stubby antenna) and approximately 6.3 ounces.

Palm Treo 650 Features

All of the Treo 650’s phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. You can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them, or use the touchscreen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. The latest phone features are built-in, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video. The Treo 650’s web browser supports full-size web pages, and you can enter secure pages with 128-bit SSL encryption. POP3 email accounts are all compatible with the 650’s email client application. IMAP and Exchange-based email systems are also supported, and you can view photos, HTML, Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments.

Palm Treo 650 Performance

Many of the fancier cellphones even have calendars, to-do lists, budget software, and more. Most phones use some form of predictive text which can be tedious and slow to say the least. Enter the PDA touchscreen on a cellphone. Even if you’re not an experienced PDA user you’ll still be amazed at how easy life is when you can handwrite contact information into your Smartphone. What has made the Treo Smartphone line so successful is that Palm built a PDA into a phone.

What’s included in the package

Treo 650 handset, lithium-ion battery, USB HotSync cable, headset, AC charger, user manual, software CD-ROM.

Conclusion

The Treo 650 smartphone from palmOne is the ideal mobile email expert. It combines easy-to-set-up, wireless email with a compact GSM/GPRS/EDGE world phone and a Palm OS organizer. Write messages fast with the finger-friendly QWERTY keyboard. Send and receive email and SMS/MMS messages wirelessly. View email attachments, including photos and native Word, Excel and PowerPoint files on the large hi-resolution color screen. Built in Bluetooth technology lets you connect wirelessly with compatible devices such as headsets and car kits. It has a digital camera for taking photos and capturing video.

What’s included in the package

The LifeDrive Mobile Manager, protective sleeve, a USB sync cable with PalmOne multi-connector, an AC adapter, installation CD with tutorial, a getting-started guide and a users manual.

Conclusion

The Palm One Mobile Manager E 4GB HandHeld PDA aims to be the portable extension of your desktop and not its replacement. While you can keep your documents with you and even make changes, you’ll still need a computer for full usability. Nevertheless, you can’t go wrong with a mobile video & picture viewer, mp3 player, email reader, the ability to surf the web and play games as well.
