HP Touchsmart tm2 Laptop / Tablet

I’ve got my hands on a lovely HP Touchsmart tm2t laptop. After the success of the HP Touchsmart desktop series HP decided to take a big leap and try a touchscreen laptop. Their first attempt, the t2z model was a failure, so I wasn’t expecting this one to be that much better. But I was pleasantly surprised with both the ease of use and the performance after I sampled this unit.

Visually the tm2 is stunning with its brushed aluminum finish and riptide design etched in. The screen is 12.1 inches, which makes it much bigger than an iPad but considerably smaller than your standard powerhouse laptop. It’s a good size since it’s small enough to use as a tablet and yet large enough to still be used as your everyday laptop. The screen rotates 180 degrees and lies flat so it converts into a tablet with Windows 7. I’m a big fan of the iPad but could never make it a laptop replacement because of the lack of a keyboard and the lack of the windows operating system.

As for the specs of this HP Touchsmart tm-2100 model, it comes built with a 1.33 GHz processor (or an 1.6GHz processor), a 500GB hard drive (7200 RPM) and it has 4GB of RAM (upgradeable to 8GB). Other interesting features are the built-in webcam, a fingerprint reader, HDMI port and a 5-in-1 digital media reader.

In conclusion, this laptop/tablet ended up being the first tablet that is a real laptop and the first laptop that is a real tablet. It’s ideal for students who want to take notes in class or for those who wish to make their laptops more mobile than ever before.
