Write Michael Dell and tell him the problems and ask him for a replacement card free of charge. It's obviously an inherent problem and they need to support the problem regardless if you have an extended warranty on it or not. I'm on #3 of the graphic card - they put in re-furbished parts so I was "fortunate" to get one and then had to have them come back to put in the second one a month later. I have a 3-year warranty home service for parts and labor. It is a major hassle to call it in - I know the problem and the "customer service" people in India have to go through all of the troubleshooting which takes an hour plus on the phone with them. I just know I'll never buy another Dell. Highly recommend HPs - after my son had the E1705 for less than a year and it crashed, it was on to an HP for him and he has had no problems for years now.

Before you get this laptop, inspiron E1705, know that the graphic card is horrible... It looks nice, but it over heats easily. I've gone through two of them, one while the warranty was still valid, and am currently looking at a screen with yellow bars running across it looking to get a new card because it blew again. $400 bucks... Not happy. I've been looking around, and it seems that this is a common problem. Starting to wish I would have gotten a mac :(

I have had this computer for about 2 years. I bought it with a 3 year warranty, 2.0 intel core duo, 1gig ram, nVidia 7800go 256mb ram, 100gig HD, 1920by1200 glossy display, bluetooh, wifi , pretty much everything on it for a little less than $3,000. Dont get me wrong I love this computer. I dont game but I edit photos with CS3, record tv ( get wintv pvr tuner in stores, much better than the one dell give you), surf the internet, AIM, skype, and homework. But i there has been nothing but problems.
The list of problems:
1. a month old, BSOD just needed to update bluetooth drivers
2. 6 months, Wont play dvds, need to replace dvd burner
3. 1 1/2 years old, computer is overheating and CPU is very slow. Need new chip, 2 new heatsinks, and 2 new fans. the guy that came to replace it said if it wasnt under warranty it would have easily cost $300-$400 plus $50/hr for service. He also said that THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH LAPTOPS AND I SHOULD ALWAYS GET A WARRANTY.
4. 2 years old, dvd drive make a loud buzzing noise, similar to an airplane, except an airplane is quiter, just kidding, and wont work half the time, need another new DVD burner.

I have decided that i am going to sell this laptop at within the next year before the 3 year warranty is up and purchase either a new dell desktop or apple laptop w/ window, ubuntu, ect. Its a shame that I have received a problem plagued computer, i really wanted to appreciate it but with all the hours ( around 10) i have spend with dell support, and new replacement chances are slim i would ever buy a dell laptop in the near future let.

1.	My mouse pad on a Intel Centrino Duo, Graphics by ATI MOBILITY RADEON X1400, Acer Aspire 5672 WLMi - Intel Core T2300 is doing the same kind of shock, “electrocution” to me- I move the mouse it makes the smallest trickle of noise, and gets warm to take-my-hand-off-it hot very often. It’s not good. It’s gotten to the point where I’ll be on it, think I can handle it, and then my hand will get instantaneously weak for a few seconds. No matter what, I think if it works through your power source, then it should be designed to handle the pressures that extend from that power source. There shouldn’t be a need to “ground” yourself before using a computer. I’m getting a little sick from this thing. Any electrical impulse sent to the body from an exterior source alters the body; seems like grounds for more punishment administered by the consumer unto the supplier or maker of the computer, but it hasn’t been in my nature to do the lawsuit thing— how the heck would you prove your computer, without acknowledgement that it could, causes bits of pain and distraction from intended controlled-mouse-movements and ultimately a distraction from reaching possible web or non-web destination, was caused by a flagrant mouse pad? - would take a real good technician.
