Palm Treo 650 Review Introduction
The Treo 650 smartphone looks and feels just like a phone, but it’s so much more. Carry thousands of business and personal phone numbers with you, and dial any of them by name from your contacts list. Or enter a name or number on the QWERTY keyboard. There’s even an on-screen dial pad, speakerphone, speed dial, conference calling, call history, and caller ID make managing all your calls that much easier.

The keys have been squished so that they are larger, flatter, and closer to one another. These enhancements make thumb-typing a little easier. The Treo 650 retains the signature five-way navigational button, which is critical for easy one-handed operation. But there are several new buttons as well. The most prominent are the dedicated Talk and Power/End buttons, which operate much like those on most cell phones. Four buttons directly below the display provide quick access to the calendar, messaging, applications, and menus. And the volume buttons on the side have been replaced by a single rocker switch, which is easier to use, as well as one customizable quick-launch button. The most impressive feature of the Treo 650 is its improved display. It is 2.5 inches diagonal; 320×320 pixels, but it shows off 65,000 shades. It is 4.4 by 2.3 by 0.9 inches (not including the stubby antenna) and approximately 6.3 ounces.

All of the Treo 650’s phone and PDA functions are designed to provide an integrated, seamless experience. You can type in the name or initials of a contact on the keypad to dial them, or use the touchscreen and stylus to copy information from an email and quickly paste it into another email or text message. The latest phone features are built-in, like a handsfree speakerphone, polyphonic ringtones, a vibrate mode and picture caller ID. The device fully supports SMS and MMS messaging for rapid exchange of pictures, text and video. The Treo 650’s web browser supports full-size web pages, and you can enter secure pages with 128-bit SSL encryption. POP3 email accounts are all compatible with the 650’s email client application. IMAP and Exchange-based email systems are also supported, and you can view photos, HTML, Word, Excel and PowerPoint attachments.
